What is Ashiatsu or Barefoot Massage?
Ashiatsu is a Japanese word that means "foot pressure". It has its roots in the Far East utilizing techniques that have been around for thousands of years. Ashiatsu involves the therapist holding onto bars secured in the ceiling to control depth and distribution of pressure delivered with their feet feet. The client rests comfortably on the massage table while the therapist provides deep compression strokes over a large area leading to muscle release, blood flow increase, and relief from chronic pain. Because the foot is a broader surface than the hand or elbow, the pressure is more evenly distributed allowing deep releases to occur without painful poking. It has been described as the deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet.
