Working in traditional health care facilities I saw many clients who repeatedly returned for treatment for the same condition. Thankfully, I worked with some very skilled PTs who understood biomechanics and the difference between cause and symptom. Unfortunately, the rules didn’t allow them to always address the cause and kept them focused on the symptoms. This, as I am sure you can imagine, led to patients feeling relief only to return later with the same complaint.

Understanding the system as it was I realized that there was an opportunity to work within the structure and to develop a style of fitness training that could address these biomechanical causes after the symptom care phase finished. This provided the patient an opportunity to truly correct the cause while the symptoms were lessened without negatively impacting the amount of insurance dollars that went to the health care facility for the patient.

Unfortunately, every health care facility that I brought my newly designed program to wanted to find a way to bill insurance for the service. Insurance restrictions, I would tell them, are the reasons I had to design this new system in the first place. The limitations that are placed by the 3rd party reimbursement model do not mesh with the model that is designed to help people achieve what they are unable to achieve through the already existing routes.

After working for 4 different facilities (from outpatient orthopedic to hospital to full-rehab facility) trying to implement the Transitional Fitness System, I realized that I would need to build my own business. That was nearly 10years ago and over that time EquiVita has grown to incorporate many different services from acupuncture to zumba, all developed on the same belief that placing the client as a person first is the only way to achieve true and lasting success.
