Client-Centered Customization
Perspective by Adam Milligan, Owner, Founder
How many times have you waited in line at your doctor’s office to be seen for 3 minutes stamped with a diagnosis and passed along with a prescription? Sounds like mass production to me. Prior to mass production every part of every item was individually hand crafted and only fit the specific item it was created to fit. This is so foreign to our modern life that it is hard to imagine a time when you couldn’t just replace a failing part on a car - much less a lid to a pot. Unfortunately, the significant advances made through mass production led to the idea that everything could be made more efficient by developing a process of standardization. And this standardization had bled over to those industries that don’t produce things, but work with people. But with people, as Stephen Covey has said, 'your goal is effectiveness not efficiency.' At EQUIVITA we work with people and, thus, we take the effective route. Over the years one of the things I have learned is that the effective route is often the most efficient route. If you have biomechanical “cheats” and you want to lose body fat you will most likely spend a lot of time, and energy performing exercises that, at best won’t help and at worst will cause injury. If, however, you take the approach of first strengthening the imbalances and learning the right way for your body to exercise you are less likely to be side-lined by injury and more likely to achieve your ideal goal. Example: We had a client come to us that was in his mid-thirties and although he worked in fashion/retail and had an expectation of being thin had begun to put on body fat. Whenever he would start an exercise program to lose the body fat he would be stopped by back pain and spasms. From his initial assessment the stress to the back was clear and his program involved working with transitional fitness trainers as well as massage therapists. Over the period of a couple months, he was able to strengthen the imbalances and put on a substantial amount of muscle. At this point he was able to begin focusing on losing the body fat and with the muscle he had developed and the program change he was able to shed the body fat quicker and with no flare up of the pains that had previously hindered his success. Every person is unique. Every goal is different. Customization is the only effective way. |
A Partner in Health
When was the last time you spent 2 hours with a health care provider? Our Initial Fitness Review™ is 2 hours in length. Frankly, it is simply the amount of time it takes to be effective.
We talk about EQUIVITA as a philosophy that places the person at the center of care, but really it is reliant on the practitioners supporting that primary focus and care. Without question professionals who care achieve greater results. The reason lies in the amount of passion and drive they bring to their craft. EQUIVITA only has staff who are focused on putting the care of the individual as the highest priority and they are consistently developed to maintain this priority. In the medical industry this level of caring and concern is systematically removed because a staff member will get burnt out and ineffective if they actually concern themselves with each patient. And while society is quick to assail the bedside manner of medical providers (did you know that bedside manner is the primary determinant of whether a malpractice lawsuit will be filed), individuals are not as quick to see their role in their health care. At EQUIVITA every client is special, unique and working towards personal goals and our staff is focused on helping each individual attain those goals. |
