The Way it Should Be
The way it should be
To move from one point to another it can sometimes require the help of an expert. This is exactly how we view our unique method of fitness training. The goal is education. Sometimes that education is teaching you about your body and sometimes it is teaching you what to feel and watch for to ensure that you are performing exercises for the maximal gain and least risk of injury. This understanding of how your body “cheats” gives you the ability to choose when to allow it and when it works against your goals. The knowledge of proper posture doesn’t mean you must have it all the time, it just opens up the options.
The belief that joints simply wear out over time is one that applies a machine concept to a living being. It makes sense because we know that it happens to machines that we use everyday. But what we are forgetting is that the body is designed to heal itself. Unfortunately, when the stress is such that the body is never given time to heal then the natural healing is disrupted.
Think about a rope and pulley. Imagine that the pulley is suspended above you and that you are holding both ends of the rope. If the rope runs directly along the slot on the wheel of the pulley, you can pull it back and forth many times with ease and minimal damage to the rope. But if you change the position of the rope by pulling at an angle that moves the rope out of the groove it is much harder to pull and continuing the pull back and forth will begin the fray the rope. Once frayed you can move the rope back to the groove and reduce the stress but the rope will remain damaged. The rope doesn’t have the ability to heal. Your body, different areas to varying degrees, can heal and will once the stress is reduced. But, just like the rope, if the stress continues damage becomes progressively worse and there is a point where relieving the stress is not enough for the body to recover.
I believe that people are only starting to realize that mass production doesn’t work for healthcare. Society is beginning to understand what ancient societies knew and that is the power of relationships. Truly we are living in time when we could blend the ancient wisdom with the new knowledge of western medicine to create that which has never before been a possibility.
